The all-in-one hifi is back and in a big way! I’ve been waiting for someone to create a re-introduction to the record console since vinyl’s re-surge, but never expected it to be from one of my fellow classmates. Matt and I both went to SIUC where we studied Industrial Design. It is nice to see him carving a serious name for himself as a designer. (I am also just now learning that Matt designed the iVictrola )

The MRC is just one of three products launched this past week at ICFF by Symbol Audio, along with the Tabletop Hifi and LP Storage Cabinet. An impressive start to say the least. Considering I have already seen the above mentioned items plastered all over the blogging world, I would say they are off to a good start! I’ll be saving my money starting now, for one of everything please.

Best of luck to you Matt & Blake and I’m sure you will do well!

Private Residence by Lake | Flato Architects

I love this house for so many reasons. Especially how you can see inspiration drawn from several types of architecture, and how they were combined is special. A little MCM, Post Modernism & Minimalism, and a tiny bit of southwestern style thrown in (note the giant stucco fireplace).

REACTOR FYI (for your inspiration): We are hiring a Designer of Champions

REACTOR FYI (for your inspiration): We are hiring a Designer of Champions:
reactorkc:

Yet another MCM designer’s house up for sale! Pearsall was responsible for starting Craft Associates which built endless amounts of custom furniture. His pieces are highly sought after but easy to find through various sources. He is the designer of the house as a trained Architect, and the only owner until now.

I spent entirely too much time yesterday scouring the internet to ultimately confirm a chair I had bought a few years ago was indeed a Pearsall (awesome for me!).

The home built for himself is up for sale (has been for a long time) for $1.25 million in Lambertville, NJ. One of the more amazing MCM homes I have seen with a double conoid roof (the arch on one side is the valley on the opposite) that seems to float above the house. The current owner bought it sight unseen, as I would if I had the money right now. Built in 1961 and labeled by Architectural Digest as one of America’s 10 best homes. Constructed for $30,000 at the time. And I cannot forget to mention all of the furniture and lighting designed and built by George Nakashima.

You can view the listing here.
If I could buy this right now I would. I may actually see how I can make this since it is not real. Designed by Soup Studio for the 2008 International Designer’s Workstation Competition and won honorable mention. It should have won the whole darn thing!

On a side conversation, design competitions such as that one drive me crazy. I’m assuming this design didn’t win because it wasn’t as flashy and complex as the other designs. But it should have won because of simplicity, feasibility & price point. All of the other designs would literally cost someone thousands of dollars to buy, and yet this table probably only a couple hundred.

Electric Rainbow

The Inside Source did a little feature on using neon colors for the home, and featured the screened porch from our KC home! A good little article to read, plus some great tips from my wife Lori.

The duo offers us this advice: “Have a plan. Look at your space in a holistic approach (wall colors, artwork, furniture, accessories). Decide what pieces and parts you want to feature with bright colors and let the rest of the space be the backdrop. If you choose a bright pink coffee table, choose a white or neutral color for the walls. Being selective and meaningful with your accent colors will direct more attention to them and thus create a greater impact.”

I love the concept behind this table from this Tempe, AZ design group. Having the different heights built into the table would offer a lot of extra uses. The addition of the concrete slab adjacent to the traditional wood surface gives it a unique appearance as well.
