Movie of the Day: One Too Many Mornings

Last year Capybara was contacted to do a score for the movie One Too Many Mornings. The score was partially written and recorded in my second bedroom. And one year ago the movie debuted at Sundance Film Festival. Well now you can all check it out on Hulu! If you haven’t watched this yet it is well worth your time. The movie ended up being one of my favorite movies of the last year.

I’m reblogging this to remind myself to watch this later. I bought the soundtrack sometime ago (which is amazing) and can’t wait to watch.

West Bottoms

I haven’t had much to share this week: it has been surprisingly busy, and I’m trying to unplug (at least a lot, but maybe not completely) from the internet and focus on getting some important things done over the next two weeks.

I figure I need to at least show up with some form of contribution to the blog this week, so here are a couple of photos from 2008, taken in the West Bottoms of KC.

I think I should send this one to Beck. Maybe he’ll use it as his next album cover. Riiiight. Both of these were shot with a Canonet, my favorite little Rangefinder. I can’t remember the film off the top of my head, but seeing as I’m a big Ilford fan I’m going to take a guess that it was HP5.

Have a good week/weekend!

Lido Spa Hotel (The Standard Miami)

We had a chance to spend one night at The Standard in Miami while in Florida, and it was a real treat for this Mid Century enthusiast. It was like walking back in time, to a 1950s bath house. I’m glad they kept the retro feel intact, rather than creating a sleek modern hotel like The Standard in LA.

How can I resist taking a photo of the front? With those giant retro letters?

The interior of the hotel is amazing. Especially if you like Scandinavian furniture.

On the lower level where our room was, there are lush gardens with boardwalks going up to each room. White curtains surround each patio in front of the room.

B&W Florida

I’m finally getting around to sharing some film shots from my Florida trip back in March. Here are some miscellaneous black and white film shots, taken with my favorite little old camera: a Canonet QL17 and Ilford Delta 400 film. Above is the area just in front of our bed & breakfast on Big Pine Key.

Looking out over the water from the top of the Bahia Honda Rail Bridge.

A sail boat passing under the bridge.

More scenery from Bahia Honda.

One of my favorite things about Key West had to be the Roosters running around everywhere.

You can see any of these images in a larger view, over at my flickr page
