Dwelling 3918 by Studio Build
Studio Build is a small (but not in talent) yet super creative design + build firm in KC. I’ve been watching them for a while and I’m always impressed with their work. Not only can these guys crank out awesome home remodels, but seriously amazing hand crafted furniture as well. They do it all, and do it well. Check out this home remodel completed back in the spring. You can see some of the before pictures here.
All of the details are done extremely well, like this staircase below. I love that Cyan blue handrail! Their sense of style is pretty spot on with mine: natural woods and neutral tones and then a serious pop of color. Well done guys!
John LaMonica / A Ghost
John sent me a link to this track on Soundcloud and I was seriously impressed. He currently resides in Lawrence, KS and is an occasional DJ. I’m hoping we’ll hear some more from him soon because this track is really, really good. It reminds me a little of “Midlake”.

This really sucks. Such a great place to find new vinyl. It’s closing next month.
Bravefellow: EP release @ Riot Room Tonight

Bought a new telephoto lens (70-200 f4L) last week, and went downtown Monday night to test it out. There is a path that starts below the lookout bridge from Main and 2nd. If you haven’t been there you really should go sometime, especially around sunset.
Capybara / En Route
After a recommendation on The Record Machine’s blog from “Baths”, I decided I needed to check out this KC band. I was pleasantly surprised and had to pick up both their “Try Brother” album and the “One Too Many Mornings” soundtrack. It was only $8, and you should get them both. After hearing the soundtrack, now I’m going to have to watch the movie.
Anyway, this is a perfect relaxing Friday song.
Bravefellow
I had a lot of fun Wednesday night, doing a photoshoot with these guys. I’m working on an album layout for their upcoming EP, which you will hear more about later. Trust me when I say, these guys are damn good. If I had to label them (which I’m not good at doing) I would say they sound like a cross between The Killers and Muse. Really awesome stuff.
Anyway, here are a few quick edits (which will get better edits later) that I wanted to share before the weekend.
Kansas City, Walkaround
I’ve been working on a lot of different projects lately. It is so wonderful to enjoy the diversity, yet sometimes I feel like I’m being pulled apart into pieces. I’ve gone downtown the past two nights to scout locations for a project I’m shooting, and there is something I have noticed that makes me love KC even more so than I already did.
#1. There are so many amazing facades to the older buildings: so many that I have never noticed before.
#2. Sometimes I forget how dramatically hilly the downtown area is. Walking and driving around, especially to the Northeast side, you can really get a sense of how quickly the edge of the city drops off in elevation.
#3. Downtown is almost eerily vacant in the evenings. But I really enjoy it.
