Social Media Ninja + Other Stuff
First off, if you missed the big news yesterday (because I know how crazy Mondays can be) here it is again.
Secondly, I’m starting to realize how very boring this blog is, and I apologize. I’m hoping to come up with a solution to make it more interesting that doesn’t involve a lot of extra time. I’m thinking I need to start occasionally posting some inspirational stuff, maybe some more in-depth articles and thoughtful posts about design. And certainly things unrelated to EVRT Studio, since I know that gets boring after a while. It might be hard to believe this (since this blog is dedicated to things going on with my freelance business), but I absolutely hate talking about myself.
Lastly, I have finally sold out and created a Facebook page for EVRT Studio. Mostly due to the fact I had gotten so many emails asking me if I had a page, so folks could follow along. But also I realize not everyone wants or can use an RSS reader to follow this blog, nor wants to follow Twitter or Flickr. So on the side bar I have added links to the various social media I am on: Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Dribble and LinkedIn.
Thanks!

West Bottoms
I haven’t had much to share this week: it has been surprisingly busy, and I’m trying to unplug (at least a lot, but maybe not completely) from the internet and focus on getting some important things done over the next two weeks.
I figure I need to at least show up with some form of contribution to the blog this week, so here are a couple of photos from 2008, taken in the West Bottoms of KC.

I think I should send this one to Beck. Maybe he’ll use it as his next album cover. Riiiight. Both of these were shot with a Canonet, my favorite little Rangefinder. I can’t remember the film off the top of my head, but seeing as I’m a big Ilford fan I’m going to take a guess that it was HP5.
Have a good week/weekend!
Not much to show or talk about this week. I’ve been busy working on one project for a client, the rest of the time has been spent researching more freelance work and making connections. But I’ve been squeezing in some time working on a couple of my own product developments. I hope to get the initial concepts done soon, and then get them prototyped! Exciting!
Anyway, I thought I would share the above images for now, which is a series of serveware I designed 3 years ago while a product designer for Design Ideas. I finally just got a hold of the images recently, so these pictures are just as new to me.
February: Development Update
Midnight Print
I had to take the midnight print down from the shop, because of some interest in developing this further with a client. There is possibly very big news here, but is in the beginning phases and I won’t be able to share any information for probably a couple months or more.
Bracelet
This is already well developed from the last update I gave, however it is on hold to pursue some other product with much more potential. I’m hoping to still work out a prototype before the end of March though.
Development Process
2010 is going to be the year; I can feel it. There are a lot of different ideas being thrown around over here, and I am really pushing myself to crank out new work. Some of which is Photography & Illustration based, but the greatest I am looking forward too is product based. Here is a brief synopsis of things in-the-works:
Prints
Working on rolling out canvas prints to lots of other retailers beyond CB2. Already have a target list: hopefully we will begin to tackle this within the next few weeks.
New prints for my shop are being developed, including some larger silk screened 18” x 24” poster sized prints. Some existing work will be adapted into 12” x 18” prints and put in the shop, which I hope to get too very soon. The larger prints will be done more around early spring…. hopefully.
Photography
I really have thousands of photos, most of which I have never shown. I’m working on bringing some of these into selected galleries on my site. Some galleries to come: WWII Bombers, More recent winter scenes, more shots from China which haven’t seen the light of day, and some of my studio product photography work.
Illustration
Working on new stuff for CB2 right now, which is mostly graphic and illustration based. Some of which for me personally, is my favorite stuff yet. I’m also just constantly doodling, trying to piece together stuff for personal work.
Product
Right now I am in the beginning phases of designing some jewelry in collaboration with my wife. We will begin by experimenting with some laser cut wood ideas. There is one bracelet design that is already in the works, which is based off of a ring I made in college out of Silver. I’ll give a little sneak peek shortly. Ultimately, the jewelry will take a little while to develop: we are pretty serious about it so we want to make sure it is good: plus as you can read above there are more precedent things taking place.
Other product ideas for way down the road which I would like to tackle are some lighting ideas and other small home accessories to get started. All of this, while I work a 9 - 5 job. Am I crazy? Possibly, but that is how you succeed at eventually working on your own instead of for other people.
Wish us luck!
